Direct Democracy has something to offer BRYCC House Membership as substantive policy

Provided is a closer look at more contemporary Marxist Ideas... Larry Marx from The American Prospect that is.... The views of the author of this article are worth considering and even though some of the specific solutions offered are not that which I would agree to, the fact remains that this sort of Substantive Democratic Value

"Over the last several years, the race for money and influence and power has left the hopes and concerns of most Americans in the dust. All you see from Washington is another scandal or petty argument. And so we get discouraged. Half of us don't vote. The half of us who do vote are voting against somebody instead of voting for something. We know what fills the void: the lobbyists, the influence peddlers with the cash and connections. … They write the checks, and you get stuck with the bills."

At the 2007 Take Back America Conference, Barack Obama offered a thorough explanation of the challenges to American democracy. Now we have a political opening, a historic opp... (read and comment)

Education 2010

Youth in Revolt or Just Freedom of Expression with Little Direction?

So... Even though we all know the Anarchist and/or Self-Made Individual is purely built by the investment of time, finance, and resources .... what do folks think about this? Martin Atkins believes he’s beginning a revolution. Fed up with traditional educational systems, believing academia doesn’t adapt quickly enough to properly educate students and challenge their minds, he’s bringing chaos into the classroom through his new school, launched last summer, Revolution Number Three.

Atkins is a music-industry veteran. A member of bands such as Public Image Ltd., Ministry, Pigface and Killing Joke, he’s also run his own independent label for two decades and has taught—most recently at Columbia College—courses on the behind-the-scenes aspects of the music business, like the logistics of touring. Last Spring Atkins helped re-brand Columbia’s student-run record label, AEMMP, the subject of a 2009 Newcity cover story.

Atkins is quick to note that he “doesn’t have all the answers. Te... (read and comment)

UPS Pilots Union (Independent Pilots Association) Volunteers to Fly Haitian Relief Without Pay

PR Newswire

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Jan. 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Given the unprecedented tragedy in the wake of the Haitian earthquake, the Independent Pilots Association â€" UPS pilots union â€" is supporting the relief effort by establishing an electronic volunteer database for its members. "This is not the first time our members have stepped-up and volunteered their services to move aid to a disaster area," said Capt. Robert Thrush, President of the IPA. "Back in 2005, more than 500 IPA crewmembers volunteered to staff flights into Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana to help alleviate the suffering from hurricane Katrina."

The Independent Pilots Association is the collective bargaining unit that represents the 2,800 professional pilots who fly UPS's large jet fleet.

Arrested for "Stealing" the Golden Shovel... Activism Defined?

Lessons on Civil Disobedience

As a preface to offering some decent reading worth repeating, I would just like to say that I see different kinds of Activism as social impact choices... Proactivism and Reactionism...

I do not believe these processes and applications to be mutually exclusive even though I am done ringing the dinner bell for folks to figure out that we need to act and act directly to make this world better for the next generations and for those who have less ability to help themselves or others through action.

I WILL NOT BE PURSUING DIALOGUE HERE... I WELCOME OUR DIALOGUE AS SIDE BY SIDE SUPPORT OF OUR FACILITY AS A PLACE WHERE REAL SUPPLIES ARE AVAILABLE FOR PEOPLE WHO NEED CHANGE

Working Person to Person....

the world is waiting for us to heal ourselves

I have tried person to person calls, asking for facilitation, securing bylaws which define function as process by which autonomy and accountability work hand in hand, setting priorities and simply waiting for others to pick up slack, offering myself up for training to improve...

Even drawing straws for sharing common responsibilities... clearly its not about what i can do but more about what i cannot do by myself or with my words...

Brycc is getting more and more people who understand the vision but just cant find consistency ... people want us to survive and do well and show up to make it happen..

This was sent to our myspace page and i dont disagree regardless of the faith/religion from which it came...

Trolley Hop Talk... Art Collective Folk Get the Job Done!

KYWAC creates a womens leadership environment locally!

Last night was a huge batch of yellow and orange fun... Women from ages 16 to 60 came out and learned about the Power of Print as a part of understanding the materials and processes associated with printmakers. Monotypes and Seriography were the featured skill sets and between the 5 active women we were able to lead the community of 15 to a greater appreciation for processes of creative interaction.

We produced over 15 BRYCC T-shirts and 3 Bike Love sweatshirts as well as a few funky freestyle shirts for the fun of it... we learned about rainbow rolling ink and screen printing process. With the help of lots of participants, the Trolley Hop Talk explored the roots of screen printing, monotypes, intaligo, lithography and batiking as cultural expressions.

Next month we will be taking on Mosaic processes and presenting our work on the exterior signage approved by the city! Join us on Sundays from 3-5 for open studio time and find out more about how you can start your own mosaic project.

LAST... Louisvillians Advancing Sustainable Transport...

How do we get our voices heard???

Our community is actively pursuing a biking lifestyle on many accounts and with folks of all ages participating as members of a movement for social change...

So whats next... Mayor's Hike and Bike?? Ride to Work with City Support... Park and Tarc?? Sure why not... but there has got to be more and there has to be a safer way of doing all this together.

We are proposing a community-based survey be run this summer to understand and gather facts about the alternatives to combustion-based transport as well as alternatives to further roadway development. Anyone interested in these ideas is welcome to gather and present or propose your city wide solutions, neighborhood applications or personal resolutions on the issue.

We welcome your input and your ideas and would love to spend some time documenting these expressions as a part of organizing a film on the subject to be used in outreach around the city. West and and East end alike do not seem to be benefitting from the grand scale of corporate progress a... (read and comment)
